Indian students have always looked at going abroad for studies. It remains a dream for many students. In this article, let's look at the various steps in the process of studying abroad. Firstly, here is a list of countries that Indian students have traditionally been very interested in going to:

  1. United States of America
  2. United Kingdom
  3. Canada
  4. Australia

Once you have decided which country to go to, you should follow these steps:

  • Taking the required tests
  • Selecting the University
  • Completing the application process
  • Filing for Visa
  1. Taking the required tests:

Most of the universities across the world require that the applicants take some tests and furnish the test scores at the time of application. In countries like the USA, GRE and GMAT are the most accepted test scores. You also need to take the TOEFL or IELTS to prove your English proficiency. In Australia, UK and Canada, IELTS is enough to apply for the universities. The higher you score on these tests the better it is for you.

  2. Selecting the right college/ University

You need to select the right university based on a series of factors:

    1. Your academic profile
    2. Cost of living
    3. Opportunities after graduation
    4. Financial assistance

You should plan to get into the best college/ university possible so that you get quality education and build a network of friends who are going to be in good positions later on. It is important to select at least four to six colleges/ Universities to ensure that you get an admission.

  3. Completing the application process

Once you decide on the University, the next step is to complete the application process. The application process involves many steps again:

    1. Submitting test scores
    2. Filling out and sending the application form
    3. Recommendation letters from your professors
    4. Statement of Purpose
  4. Filing for your visa

You should have had your admission letters/ I20s before you reach this step.

Different countries have different processes when it comes to filing for a visa. You need to collect all the information about the visa process for the country that you are planning to go. You should get all the required documentation done before you apply for the visa.
