What kind of jobs can you look forward to

While not easy to learn, tasting tea is a talent very few have or can hone over time. With India being one of the leading producers of tea, there is an ocean of opportunities for you if you do decide to become a professional Tea taster. Usually tea manufacturing companies employ Tea tasters to ensure the quality of their tea. Certain companies also take the assistance of Tea tasters to ascertain if there are any defects in the manufacturing process. You can also opt to work in plantations to oversee the entire production process.

Success Story

One of the most renowned Tea taster is Sanjay Kapur. A Master Tea taster, he is also a blender and the owner of his own brand of tea, 'Sancha'. In 2005 he even teamed up with a Celebrity  Wine taster to demonstrate the similarities in the flavors of French Wines and Indian Teas.

A Tea taster is a trained professional who tastes different teas and determines their quality. While the plant is the same, the end product, tea, is often affected by the topography, climatic conditions and the manufacturing process. This is the reason why tea from different regions or even brands has a distinct flavor.  A Tea taster's job is to differentiate the subtle differences in tea flavors and grade them based on their quality. Smoking, chewing tobacco and drinking alcohol is a strict no-no for Tea tasters as these practices compromise the tasting abilities.

So, as a proficient Tea taster, you would need to develop the talent of recognizing and distinguishing a tea leaf based on its color and size. You would also be expected to have a thorough understanding of the scientific process behind the manufacturing of tea leaves.
